Why Dyslexia Aware Counselling Can Help

Dyslexia can affect much more than reading, writing or spelling. For many people, it can influence confidence, anxiety, self-esteem, relationships, work, education and everyday decision-making.

GroOops is based on the belief that dyslexic people often have strengths, creativity and insight that may have gone unrecognised. The aim is not to “fix” dyslexia, but to help people understand themselves more compassionately, develop coping strategies and build a stronger sense of dyslexic identity.

This support may be helpful if you are experiencing:

  • Anxiety, overwhelm or low confidence linked to dyslexia
  • Difficulty coping with work, study or everyday tasks
  • Emotional distress after a dyslexia assessment
  • Challenges with self-advocacy or explaining your needs
  • Transitions such as starting work, changing roles or returning to education
  • A desire to better understand your dyslexic strengths

How GroOops Works

GroOops uses an integrative, predominantly Humanistic approach. Sessions may also draw from CBT, Mindfulness, psycho education, Human Givens and psychodynamic approaches where appropriate.

The work is shaped around the individual. Depending on what feels useful, sessions may include creative and reflective approaches such as art, drama, roleplay, games, visualisation, relaxation techniques, music or storytelling.

The focus is on helping each person understand their experiences, develop healthier coping mechanisms and build confidence in a way that feels realistic and supportive.
