Personal Financial Course for Dyslexic Adults
“Take control of your money with clarity, confidence, and support.”
ABOUT
Our First Personal Finance Virtual Course
Did you know that dyslexic adults are more likely to experience financial stress and lower financial confidence — often due to inaccessible systems, complex language, and a lack of tailored support?
Many dyslexic people report avoiding budgeting, pensions, or long-term planning altogether, not because they’re not able, but because financial information is rarely designed with neurodiverse brains in mind.
DAL’s Personal Finance Course for Dyslexic Adults is here to change that. Together, we’ll explore budgeting, saving, and planning for the future in a way that feels manageable, empowering, and even enjoyable. No jargon. No shame. No “one right way” to manage money.

1. UNDERSTANDING YOUR MONEY
This opening session explores how dyslexia and money decisions are connected. Led by personal finance expert Krystle McGilvery, it helps dyslexic adults understand how to work with their natural thinking style. We’ll look at how dyslexia can affect organisation, memory, and stress around money, explore common money beliefs and self-talk, and understand how emotions like overwhelm or impulsivity can influence spending. The session includes a reflection activities to help you uncover your personal goals.
Wednesday Feb 18 20256- 7:30-8:30pm
2. Budgeting 101: Creating a Budget Plan
This practical session breaks down budgeting in a way that works for dyslexic adults. Led by bookkeeper Nicola Ashdown, the focus is on reframing budgeting as a supportive tool, not a restriction. Participants will explore straightforward budgeting approaches. The session includes a live walkthrough of a dyslexia-friendly Google Sheets budget, showing how to use colour, minimal categories, and automation to reduce overwhelm and adapt to different income types and energy levels. You’ll also learn how to make budgeting stick with realistic habits, how often to review your budget, and what to do when plans change.
Wednesday February 25 2026 - 7:30-8:30pm
3. Introduction to Saving and Investing
With Financial Coach Alina Burlacu, this session introduces saving and investing in a clear, beginner-friendly way, designed specifically for dyslexic adults who want to build financial confidence without jargon or pressure.
We’ll explore why saving matters, how to start in realistic ways, and how to build an emergency fund that actually feels achievable. The session also covers investing basics — including ISAs, pensions, and low-risk options — with a focus on understanding the concepts rather than “getting it perfect.”
Wednesday March 4 2026 - 7:30-8:30pm
4. Planning for Your Future
This session helps dyslexic adults approach future financial planning and all the things we know we should think about, but might put off. Led by Financial Advisor Liam Cloughton DipPFS, the focus is on understanding what you should have prepared, prioritising next steps, and building a simple financial plan based on your age bracket and goals.
We’ll cover the basics of pensions, wills, and financial protection in plain English, helping you decide what to focus on now and what can wait. The session ends with a short action-planning activity so you leave with clear, realistic next steps and greater confidence about the future.
Some Common Questions
Will the sessions be recorded and available to participants?
Yes! All sessions will be recorded, so if you can’t attend live or want to revisit the material, you’ll have access to the full recordings. This means you can follow along at your own pace, review exercises, and reflect on the expert insights whenever it’s convenient for you.
Pre-reading materials will also be provided before each session to help you prepare, and “homework” exercises will give you practical ways to apply what you’ve learned and get the most out of the course.
What if I can’t attend all four sessions?
Don’t worry—we understand life can get busy! The programme is flexible, and if you miss a session, join late, or leave early, we’ll make sure you’re up to date with summaries, recordings, and materials. You can continue participating in exercises, pre-reading, and homework at your own pace, ensuring you still gain the full benefit of the course.
Okay, but still, why should I register?
This is a rare opportunity to learn from some of the leading experts in dyslexia, budgeting, and personal finance—all in one affordable, four-week programme. We promise, you’ll gain practical tools to improve your financial wellbeing the year ahead.
